Description

A lone hiker meanders down a dune toward the rising sun at Great Sand Dunes National Park.

I saw this hiker immediately as I framed the shot. My initial reaction was to curse his intrusion into my abstract. As I decided on my focus point I realized that cropped down this image would be more powerful with the hiker present.

It would be easy to 'erase' him and content-aware fill his trail in. There is something about the vastness of the dunes that are enhanced by this tiny figure and his undulating course. With the dramatic sunrise light enhancing his isolation the image becomes more desolate and thusly, more powerful.
